About us

The ACT Planning and Land Authority (ACTPLA) is part of the ACT Government Environment and Sustainable Development Directorate, which unites ACTPLA with environmental policy and protection, sustainability policy, the Government architect, heritage, transport planning and nature conservation.

ACTPLA has many functions, with its core function planning for Canberra’s future growth in partnership with the community. The organisation has statutory roles—performed under various pieces of legislation, the most important of which is development assessment under the Planning and Development Act 2007.  ACTPLA also has many less well-known functions including building regulation, leasing and Territory Plan administration.

While a new directorate website is under construction, information on land information, urban design, and land and spatial planning policy remains on this website.
