Electric shock from taps
ACTPLA has recently received a number of complaints from tenants regarding electric shocks from taps, shower cubicles and metal surfaces on electrical equipment (exposed metal).
Electricians are often contacted by occupants to fix the shock problem. Occasionally attempts by electricians to fix the problem remain unresolved and the shock risk prevails. A recent unresolved shock tingle complaint at a household had been a family problem for two years.
Electricians must be aware that the Electricity Safety Act requires them to report all electrical emergencies to ActewAGL on 13 10 93 regarding any alleged electric shock or tingles from taps. ActewAGL will then investigate the local distribution network for faults. If no faults are found and they determine that it is an installation issue ActewAGL's network operator will contact ACTPLA and request an investigation by an electrical safety inspector of the reported fault in the private installation.
All alleged electric shock reports are investigated by ActewAGL and ACTPLA and are jointly resolved whatever time it takes.
