Electrical fees
Recently the issuing of certificates of occupancy of use (COU) for some projects has been delayed because electrical inspection fees have not been paid.
Electrical inspection fees were introduced in 2009–10 ACT Budget. The fees were communicated to industry and introduced progressively over the course of the financial year.
Exemptions
At the time the fees were introduced concerns were raised by industry members about projects where contracts had already been entered into for electrical work but where fees for that work had not been levied against the project.
The Construction Occupation Registrar agreed that when contracts had already been entered into for electrical works then fees for that electrical work would not be levied against the project.
Exemption from paying the fees can not be granted without evidence which should be in the form of a signed and dated contract for the work, clearly showing that the contracts for the work being undertaken were agreed before 1 August 2009.
Providing this information to ACTPLA's Mitchell office either before or at the time of application for a COU will speed up the process and ensure the COU can be issued quickly.
