  • 21 Oct 2014 - Guide to building

    consumer guide to the building process is now available. The booklet is designed to inform you about some of the processes involved in building and renovating in the ACT.

  • 30 Sep 2014 - Bill improves planning and building legislation

    An omnibus bill that makes a number of minor changes to Environment and Planning Directorate legislation has been tabled in the Legislative Assembly by ACT Minister for Planning, Mick Gentleman.

    The Bill makes minor policy, technical and editorial amendments to legislation including requirements for building approvals for work that is considered exempt from requiring development approval.

  • 16 Sep 2014 - Gas safety reform gets the tick of approval
    New laws were passed in the Legislative Assembly today that streamline and improve gas safety regulations in the ACT. The Gas Safety Legislation Amendment Bill 2014 consolidates occupational regulation into the ACT’s Construction Occupations (Licensing) Act. The Bill also streamlines existing legislation for setting safety standards for gas appliances and installations, removes superseded regulations and clarifies important concepts and definitions.

  • 05 Sep 2014 - Attention DA and BA applicants - Approved form update

    The Environment and Planning Directorate are in the process of updating all forms.

    The following list of forms approved under the Planning and Development Act 2007 and the Building Act 2004 have recently been changed to include the Environment and Planning Directorate logo, updated contact details and new privacy statements to comply with new privacy legislation that came into effect on 1 September 2014. 

  • 27 Aug 2014 - Infinity electrical cable recall

    The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has announced a recall of all sizes and configurations of TPS and Orange Round mains power cables sourced from Infinity Cable Co Pty Ltd and supplied under 'INFINITY' and 'OLSENT' brands. More.

  • 18 Aug 2014 - Asbestos removal program - new search process
    Former and current tenants and home owners can now find out if a property they resided in contained loose-fill asbestos and was part of an asbestos removal program. Property owners are also able to find out if their property was part of the program. More
  • 01 Aug 2014 - DA Finder App
    The ACT Government’s new DA finder app is a new way of informing the community about development applications happening in the Territory. The app is free of charge and is available on iOS and the Google Play Store.


  • 29 Aug 2014 - Draft variation 327 allows for light rail
    Comments are invited on proposed changes to the Territory Plan to introduce the term ‘Light Rail’ to the Territory Plan to allow for the Capital Metro – Light Rail Stage 1 project. The changes will allow for areas to be rezoned to accommodate light rail associated works and the proposed light rail depot. Submissions close 15 October 2014
  • 21 Jul 2014 - Territory Plan draft variations 297 and 319

    DV297 is an omnibus variation including planning changes recommended for areas of high ecological value. DV319 proposes zoning changes at Kinlyside, Taylor, Horse Park north, Jacka and Throsby – resulting from the Gungahlin Strategic Assessment Biodiversity Plan. DV297 and DV319 are available on the draft variations page. Consultation closes 29 August 2014.
