Territory Plan review

review of  policy content in the Territory Plan

ACTPLA is currently reviewing policy content in the Territory Plan.

The review aims to ensure the Territory Plan remains a contemporary best practice document outlining planning requirements in the ACT and meets the recommendations of the national Development Assessment Forum. The review will identify policies that may need amending and any provisions that need to be added.

Minor changes to the Territory Plan can be made by technical amendment, while more complex changes or those requiring policy changes are made via full variations to the Territory Plan.

Draft variations resulting from the Territory Plan review

Draft variation number 306

Draft Variation 306 to the Territory Plan proposes:

  • changes to residential development, estate development and leasing
    codes
  • replacement of residential zones objectives development tables, and
    housing development codes
  • introduction of Residential Zones Development Code and Lease
    Variation General Code
  • replacement of existing Residential Subdivision Development Code with
    an Estate Development Code

A review of the policies proposed by draft variations 301 and 303 was undertaken by the 2010 Territory Plan Code Review Reference Group which was set up by direction of the Minister for Planning. Draft variation 306 supersedes the above draft variations that are now withdrawn.

The period for the public to provide written comments closed on Tuesday 6 September 2011

Draft variation number 302

One of the first tasks under the review was an examination of the community facility zone and associated development table and code. Draft variation 302 recommends a number of changes, most of which are aimed at simplifying and clarifying the planning rules for community facility zones, which is where services like child care centres, churches etc. are located.

The period for comments on draft variation 302 has closed.
