The ACT Planning and Land Authority produces, updates and maintains many types of land information, from the smallest detail of a kerb and gutter in an engineering survey drawing to the extent of the ACT border. Mapping program products are available from the plan room in the Dickson Customer Service Centre. Costs are set out in the fees and charges booklet.

Types of maps available

A variety of cadastral, topographic, orthophotographic and engineering maps and plans have been produced. High quality large and medium-scale cartographic maps are produced as well as a range of thematic mapping products, including illustrative mapping and graphic design.

Mapping series products

Mapping program products available include:

• 1:2,500 and 1:25,000 scale cadastral series maps showing property boundary information over the entire ACT
• 1:500 Computation Series, and a companion 1:1,000 Series showing the precise mathematical dimensions of blocks in the city area
• deposited plans, which show boundary information of surveyed, actual leased blocks of land
• 1:10,000 Planning Series maps covering the ACT and surrounding areas in NSW (5m contour interval). Many of these ageing maps covering the ACT have been published as five-colour maps
• 1:2,500 Detail Series, showing the built and natural environment (2m contour interval). Coverage over urban-capable areas
• 1:500 Detail Series, field surveyed plans of areas to be developed and non-residential urban areas
• 1:2,500 Orthophotomap Series. Coverage similar to Detail Series. Information shown as black-and-white scale corrected aerial photo with a 2m contour interval
• 1:500 Enlarged Aerial Photo Series. Minimally corrected black-and-white, coverage similar to 1:500 Computation Series
• Canberra by Suburbs, showing the blocks of land in each suburb of Canberra and rural districts in the ACT
• cadastral maps at scales of 1:500, 1:2,500 (urban) and 1:25,000 (rural)
• topographic maps at various scales 1:10,000 and 1:25,000
• detail maps at 1:500, 1:1,000 and 1:2,500
• land management plans - lease plans, land withdrawal plans, deed plans, sale plans, road openings and closures, and nomenclature plans
• surveying plans - deposited plans, road plans, engineering plans and long and cross sections
• town planning plans - base plans, control plans, development guidelines, implementation plans and minor amendments
• transport engineering plans - traffic flows and car parking plans.

There are also a number of specially produced project plans and specialised series over particular sites at various scales.

Apart from Deposited Plans, Canberra By Suburbs, land management plans and town planning plans, these series maps and plans have been discontinued.

However, all existing products are available as original offset prints, paper copies or film copies at original scale.

A3 paper copies are also available.

Historical series

The historical series, drawn using imperial scales, have been compiled using aerial photographic and field survey methods. They provide a snapshot of what existed at that time and can be used for time-based investigations. Drawings of town planning schemes done using these plans are also available.
