ACTmapi - a step by step guide

To find out what development is allowed on your block of land, you need to check what the land use policy (otherwise known as zoning) is for your land.

You can do this using ACTMAPi, a web-based tool for viewing maps and geographic information about Canberra and the Australian Capital Territory.

To find your block of land on ACTMAPi:

  1. Click the search tool (the yellow binoculars tool at the top of the screen) and a new window will pop up.
  2. Select how you want to search – i.e. by address, urban or rural block number, section number or division. We recommend searching by address or urban block number.

To search by address:

  1. Select a division from the drop down list. By default, the search is set to <Any>, which searches every division.
  2. Enter the street name or part name (e.g. “northb” will return “Northbourne Avenue”). You do not need to enter “Street”, “Road” etc.
  3. Click the find button or press Enter – a list of addresses will be displayed.
  4. Click on the orange pin next to the address you wish to zoom to.

To search by urban block number:

  1. Select a division from the drop down list.
  2. Enter the section number.
  3. Click the find button or press Enter – a list of addresses will be displayed.
  4. Click on the orange pin next to the address you wish to zoom to.

Once you have the relevant block displayed, click on the block to open a new window, which displays the block attributes.  This feature requires a one-off download of the Adobe SVG plug-in (see below for details).

This window displays relevant information about the individual block including the Territory Plan land use policy (i.e. zoning).

Once you know the land use policy, you can refer to the Territory Plan for detailed information about the types of developments allowed under that land use.

ACTMAPi is best viewed using SVG.  This requires a one-off download from adobe.

Please note this download is only available for Internet Explorer.  If you are using another browser, please refer to the following page.
