Asbestos assessors' responsibilities
Responsibilities of a licensed asbestos assessor
Asbestos assessors have several responsibilities for ensuring that identification and assessment of the risks resulting from the identified asbestos and recommendations on its safe management are professional.
Licensing
Providing an asbestos assessment service requires that the person providing that service holds a current asbestos assessor licence. There are restrictions on the type of work that can be done depending on the licence class.
Standards and legislation
The legislation that applies to asbestos assessors’ work is the:
-
Construction Occupations (Licensing) Act 2004 and regulation;
- Building Act 2004;
- Civil Law (Sale of Residential Property) Act 2003;
- Dangerous Substances Act 2004; and
- Residential Tenancies Act 1997.
Safety
Asbestos assessors need to maintain safety when handling asbestos. See the ACT Government's asbestos website for more information.
Regulation
Anyone who believes a licensed or formerly licensed asbestos assessor has not fulfilled their obligations may put their concerns in writing by giving us feedback. Complaints may result in disciplinary action.
