Molonglo River Park Concept Plan

The Molonglo River Park Concept Plan (2011) is being prepared in parallel with the Molonglo Valley stage 2 draft PDF. The interrelationship between the Molonglo Valley development and the river park is critical to the overall future success of Molonglo Valley as Canberra’s newest residential area.

The River Park Plan aims to:

  • Enhance environmental values in the river corridor, including protection of endangered flora and fauna species, weed removal and heritage protection;
  • Provide appropriate recreation opportunities to the Molonglo River for the community that does not impact on environmental values;
  • Provide trail networks for a range of users including walkers, cyclists, vehicles and maintenance, that links with the wider National Capital Open Space System
  • Provide a plan for bushfire management, land-care and landscape works, and public education, interpretation and research.

The Molonglo River Park Concept Plan is also being prepared to establish areas to be designated as nature reserve and recreation areas. This plan has been prepared in parallel with the draft PDF and is currently going through the government approval processes.

A series of stakeholder meetings with environmental and recreation groups were held at key stages of the river park project. In addition, a separate stakeholder meeting was held 8 June 2011 to discuss the specific issues of the project. See the poster display here (2.1 MB).
