The role and members of the Construction Occupation Licensing Act Advisory Boards
Four advisory boards provide advice and assistance to the Construction Occupations Registrar.
Board responsibilities
The advisory boards’ functions are to:
- advise the Registrar about qualifications for the construction occupation
- help with investigations for the construction occupation if asked by the Registrar
- help develop and maintain codes of practice for the construction occupation if asked by the Registrar.
The boards
The boards are:
- Building Advisory Board
- Electrical Advisory Board
- Plumbing Advisory Board
- Asbestos Advisory Board
All boards meet on a needs basis.
Members
The advisory boards each have eight members appointed by the Construction Occupations Registrar. The memberships are flexible, acknowledging that each construction occupation may require more or less representatives from relevant groups. The membership of an advisory board is:
- at least seven but not more than nine members
- at least four members who are licensed, of which not more than two who are from a body established to represent people working in that occupation
- at least one but not more than three members who represent educational institutions
- one lawyer
- one community representative who is not a licensee.
